THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING BROKEN...

Psalms 34:18; Psalms 51:17; Phil 3:9-14

Intro: The Promise of God made to those who are of a broken heart and contrite spirit is something we need to take heed to today. As the alabaster box in Mark 14:3, the fragrant odor of God will never flow out from us until we too are broken. Paul wanted to know Christ in the FELLOWSHIP OF HIS SUFFERING.

Note: Five areas we need to KNOW HIM IN!

I. KNOW HIM IN GETHSEMANE'S SURRENDER.-.Matt 26

A. Surrender to the will of God...V 36-46

B. Surrender to the work of God...V 42

C. Surrender to the word of God...V 53-54

II. KNOW HIM IN  GABBATHA'S SUFFERINGS

He suffered three ways, so will we!

A. At the hands of sinners...Matt 26:45

B. At the hands of Satan...Gen 3:15

C. At the hand of the Sovereign...Isa 53:4-6,10

III. IN GOLGOTHA'S SACRIFICE

A. Death to Family.. Jn 19:26-27

B. Death to Friends

C. Death to Flesh

IV. IN THE GARDEN'S SURPRISE

Every one of us need a place where we can take the flesh and devil back to and remind them of our death to the above three.

Note these memorials:

A. The Empty Grave...John 20:2

B. The Empty Garments...Jn 20:5-7

C. The Empty Grasp...Acts 2:24

V. IN THE GLORIOUS SPLENDOR

A. When he calls

I'll be answering.. Job 14:14-15

I'll be awarded...II Cor 5:10
